How much money have you invested in the company and in what time frame? What was the money used for?
Since the start of my business, I have probably invested just over $20,000. I fixed up the building I am currently in along with other buildings I am no longer in. My current location is where I plan to stay. I have purchased things listed above for my expansion like epoxy on the floor, a new garage door, spray foam, painting walls, a plotter to cut out my film, 2 automotive lifts, tools of all kinds, and the main use of money is my time. Time is money, so there is no amount that I can put on how much my expertise, skill, and knowledge of this business is worth.

Have you ever tried to raise money from outside sources? YES/NO (Highlight one) If YES, please provide details:
What attempts have you made to build your business? Have you been successful? I have tried to hire employees before, but they didn’t work out. I have only been able to do what I can do by myself.
Why do you want to pitch your business?
I would like to get it set up and running successfully without me and limited supervision so I have the freedom to start other projects like a racetrack in Abilene.
What is your unique selling proposition? What is your “hook”, and why is your business notable?
My reputation speaks for itself. Look at my reviews. Talk to my customers, ask how they are treated, how my quality of workmanship is, and the products I use. I have over 20 years in this industry. I also do not do any advertising and I am booked up for the next 2 weeks and turn tint jobs down daily. Winter months are always slower though. Describe the circumstances surrounding how you conceived and developed your business. I started tinting car windows in 1997. My friend and I bought some cheap tint at Auto Zone and blacked out our trucks. I then started doing it for some friends and because I’m a perfectionist, I had to figure out how to do it correctly without dirt bubbles. I started working for a stereo shop and they had a professional tinter come in and train me for a week. After a few months there, the owner and I had a falling out, so I left and started my own business in 2001 called Tint Pro Motorsports in Columbia MO. I ran that for 7 or 8 years until the housing bubble caused my business to slow me to shut down. Fast forward to 2013, I got a job working for Xpel Technologies in Austin. They are a major film company who competes with Eastman Chemical Company and 3M. I ran their Austin location for 3.5 years before moving to Abilene with my now wife who is from here. Having that experience allowed me to come into this town and start a successful business because there were few people in the area. I looked for tint shops to find a name, and realized nobody had “Abilene Window Tinting”. To me, this is the easiest, most searched, most explained name for the business I am doing. So I snagged it up. I don’t have to advertise, as stated earlier, because of my business name as well.

Additional Notes or Thoughts:
I have lots of dreams and aspirations, but I can get very overwhelmed when I have lots of work. That makes it harder for me to get stuff done sometimes. I am honest, I try to work hard, but have become more lackadaisical over the past year and I need a new rejuvenation. Doing this job by myself for this long takes a toll. My profits above are small because I have purchased things for tax purposes, so don’t let that scare you. I would change the structure with employees and investors. Typical gross profit margins can be 400% to 600% for automotive tint jobs, 800% to 1200% on commercial tint jobs, 300% to 700% on ceramic coating jobs, and 300% to 500% on vinyl wraps after material costs. I don’t NEED to epoxy the floor in the expansion part, but it really impresses customers when they walk in and see the cleanliness of the shop. It also gives them a calming feeling when they drop off because they see the organization and cleanliness which shows expertise. Please feel free to stop by my shop anytime to just chat or take a look even if you don’t invest. Thank you for your time.
