What attempts have you made to build your business? Have you been successful?

While we have not officially launched operations yet, we’ve laid a strong foundation to ensure the success of our business. We’ve conducted in-depth research on industry trends, consumer preferences, and market opportunities, which have shaped our business concept and positioning. For instance, the nail salon industry is experiencing growth driven by demand for specialized services and unique customer experiences. Simultaneously, we’ve identified gaps in male-focused nail care, which presents an opportunity to cater to an underserved demographic. We’ve also carefully examined challenges such as competition, operational scalability, and evolving customer expectations. This research has informed strategic decisions about our branding, service offerings, and go-to-market approach. Our focus thus far has been on planning and laying the groundwork to ensure that once launched, the business is positioned to achieve strong, sustainable growth. While we haven’t reached measurable success in the market yet, we’re confident that our preparatory efforts set us up for long-term success.

Why do you want to pitch your business?

I want to pitch my business because it’s about more than just launching a venture—it’s about contributing to a community that I deeply care for and where I see so much potential. Abilene is not just where I live; it’s where I want to plant my roots and build a legacy. By establishing this business, I aim to create opportunities that benefit the people in our community, from providing jobs to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. The idea is not only to fill a gap in the market but to be part of Abilene’s growth story—a community that is already close-knit and vibrant, with so much promise for the future. Pitching my business is a step toward turning this dream into reality. It’s about helping to shape a quickly developing community, supporting local economic growth, and creating a lasting positive impact on the place I am proud to call my forever home.

What is your unique selling proposition? What is your “hook”, and why is your business notable?

The Hook: "Where Sports and Self-Care Meet."

Talons reimagines self-care by integrating a sports-bar vibe—think big-screen TVs, game-day specials, and sports-themed decor—into a traditionally female-dominated space. Whether it’s a manicure during halftime or a VIP grooming package while watching the big game, Talons transforms nail care into an exciting, social, and approachable activity for all.

Why Talons Is Notable:

1. First of Its Kind: Talons fills a market gap by directly catering to men, a growing demographic in the nail salon industry, while also creating a welcoming environment for everyone.

2. Inclusive Atmosphere: The salon’s unique design, marketing, and services appeal to sports enthusiasts, families, and first-time salon-goers.

3. Event-Focused Packages: Talons leverages Texas' love for sports by tying grooming services to sports seasons, local teams, and major events.

4. Community-Centric Approach: Partnerships with local teams, gyms, and businesses ensure Talons is deeply rooted in the community.

By making self-care accessible, entertaining, and inclusive, Talons transforms what people expect from a nail salon.

Describe the circumstances surrounding how you conceived and developed your business.

4 years ago on a random day off of work, my wife wanted her and I to go get a mani/pedi. As I was walking out I looked over and there were 4 gentlemen getting a mani/pedi themselves away from everyone else. I walked over and listened to them speak for a little bit and I overheard them say that they were at a bachelor party. That is when it clicked in my head. They had a drink in their hand, relaxing with friends, and enjoying themselves, but they looked very out of place. I went to a sports bar that evening and it all came together.
